Fires at Palmerston North.
STANDARD OFFICE GUTTED. (Per Press Association.) PaucKbston N., This Day. About midnight a fire broke oat in the Central Hotel, and burned the wall of one side. Considerable damage was done by water. The Theatre Boyal adjoining was saved. The building is insured in the New Zealand oflice for £800. The stock was also insured. Shortly after two this morning another fire broke out in the Standard onice. The machinery and type were saved. The Commercial Hotel adjoining was charred, and the inside damaged by water. Jubal Fleming's tobacconist's shop was damaged by wkter. Fleming's stock is ensured in the Phcenix for £100 ; damage about £100. The Standard building is ensured in the National for £250. The' machinery and plant for £200 in the Phcenix and £300 in New Zealand. The Commercial Hotel is insured for £350 in Phcenix, Royal and New Zealand. The damage is estimated at £300. In both cases the Fire Brigade did good work.
