[FEB FBEBS ASSOCIATION 7! J : Wellington. July 3. gaming legislation. * The Hon. W. Montgomery moyed the second reading of the Gaming ami Lotteries Act Amendment Bill, which absolutely prohibits the bringing of actions to recover bets or stakes. The Hon Mr Pharazyn thought that «rould be very unjust, considering the totalisator had been recognised by the State, and he did not see what right the State had to interfere with persons betting if they wanted to. The Bill was read a second time by 17 to 8, and was referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The Council then adjourned till Wednesday.
