The Dairy Industry.

(Per Press Association.) _ Melboubnf, July 3. Tbe Government bave instructed the Agent-General to co operate with Mr Valentine, the New Zealand dairy expert, where tbe interests are identical. Mr Valentine expresses the opinion that if greater harmony ensued amongst shippers New Zealand would j be placed in a superior position as regards shipping airangements. The Victorian dairy farmers in the latter colony are agitating for a better system of distribution in the Home mar ket and he warns the producers against making arrangements with large mercantile firms unless they guarantee a proper system of distribution, otherwise it will mean simply a repetition of past troubles. Auckland, July 2. Mr Henry Reynolds, of the firm of Messrs Reynolds and Co. (Limited), has just returned, after a six weeks tour of tbe Colony, during which he visited most of the leading butter and cheepe factories in New Zealaud. All of those spoken to have agreed to join and form a dairy association for both the North and South Islands, with a secretary at Wellington, whence fortnightly shipments of pro luce are to he regularly made. " I am fully satisfied/ says Mr Reynolds, " that wo shall have all the help we asked, for from the Government at the Wellington Agricultural conference, and the Dairy Conference at Dunedin. In-con-nection with insulated trucks and cold storage, grading, etc., an ame; dtnent to the Dairy Bill is now being printed to effect these, and a grant is being provided for them. If the grant is passed by Parliament, and, seeing the dairy industry is now the backbone of the Colony, we do not expect anyone to vote against it. We can rely upon what we want being carried out the Secretary for Agriculture had this matter in hand before my arrival in the Colony, but as Conferences were to be held in Wellington and Dunedin it was held baok to see whether we should all move in the same direction. As I have told you, we were all in accord, and if the suggestions be but carried out as we confidently expect, next season Will see a very marked improvement in the quality of the New Zealand butter when landed in London, and so obviate tbe great complaints that have been made regarding the quality of the produce lately exported. lam more than ever satisfied that the dairy industry is going to be one of great importance to the Colony and that within a very short time it will.
