The Funeral of the late French President.
A PANIC RAISED IN THE CROWD. WOMEN TRAMPLED UPON. (Per Press Association.) Pabis, July 2. The funeral of the late President passed off without incident. Hundreds fainted from the heat and crush. The requiem services in memory of the de ceased have been world wide. Later. The crowd to witness the late President Carnot's funeral was prodigious, and the spectacle unparalleled in the history of France. Among those present were M. Casimir-Perier, diplomatists, special delegates of Royalties, members of the Senate and Chamber, officers of the army and navy, Civil servants, and all classess of the community. The anguish of deceased's children affected the crowd to tears. Madame Carnot was absent. In the Bue Rivoli some sensation was caused when the front -of the crowd suddenly recoiled, owing to the fractiousness of some horses. Those who were not acquinted with the cause of the sudden stoppage at once raised cries of bombs, and a panic ensued. Stands were overturned and ladies trampled on. The cortege halted, and therefore appeared to confirm the report of an outrage, increasing the terror of the immense crowd. President Carnot was buried between the remains of Victor Hugo and General Rousseau. The wreaths filled four rooms, and that forwarded by the Czar required J ten men to carry. i During the procession several spectators fell from roofs on to the heads of some of the crowd below.
