(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). London. June 20. Bishop Selwyn rend a paper at a inteting of the Colonial Institute, in the course of which ho said the Colonial Governtnents alone ought to import Kanakas, and cure ought to bo taken to limit the number of recruits so as to prevent the depopulation of the Islands. He advocated the appointment of peripatetic officers to supervise thn trnffie, and paid the native police force would be nble to maintain pence at the Islands. Sir Geo Grey took part, in the discussion on the paper, and concurred in the views expressed by Bishop Selwyn. Lord Stanmore con tended that recruiting ought to be conducted under the supervision of the Imperial Government. Sir J F. Garrick, >gent General for Queensland, defended the existing system of recruiting
