Pemberton Notes.
♦ The Pemberton Rifle Club held their second meeting on Saturday 18th instant. The day was fine, and favorable for shooting, but owing to the late start, darkness came on before the 500 yds could be completed. The following are the scores: —
At the 500 yds Buckrell had 3 shots and Bryce 4 to complete. Next meeting will be held on July 14th. Firing to commence at 11 a.m. sharp. Opinions are somewhat divided as to whether tho late flood, or the Gov eminent repairs, have done most damage to the main road in this neigh bourhood. About half a mile of new metal has been laid down, while a mile and a half of good road has been cut to pieces by carting over it Evidently the problem of metalling roads in midwinter has not yet been solved. The school closed on Friday for the midwinter holidays. Mr Stansell, the master, iuforms me that the attendance for the past month has been very satisfactory.
