The Feilding Star. Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. SATURDAY, JUNE 16, 1894. A NEW POST OFFICE.
We hope that another effort will be made by the Borough Council to have a sum of luoney placed on the estimates this session, for the purpose of having erected a post office suitable to the requirements of the place. The present " ramshacle " building was well enough when there was only one line of telegraph, but now that telephone communication has been opened with the Kiwitea, Awahuri, and Colytoo, and Makino is about to be added, the accommodation is miserably insufficient. We are quite within tlje mark
when we say that the work has increased tenfold within the last ten years in connection with the arrival and departure of mails. The space occupied by the officials is so cramped that they have hardly room to move without jostling. Besides, it must be absolutely unhealthy for them to have to breath the same atmosphere for so long, especially when the little cabin known as " the lobby " has been crowded with the public for an hour or two. We had some conversation with Mr Pirani, M.H.R., on the subject and he promised that any movement made by the people of Feilding in the direction of removing the post and telegraph to a more centrally situated building would receive his hearty support.
