Wanganui Education Board.
Tho monthly meeting of tlie above Board was resumed yesterday morning, Present — Messrs J. Notman (chairman), Fry, Sanson, Bridge, Baker, Carson, Hurley, Beckett, and Rev. J. Ross. Birmingham. -A letter was received from the Committee calling the Board's attention to the overcrowded condition of the school, and asking for enlargement. —Resolved, tbat the matter will be attended to so soon as the Board is in fnnds. Pohangina. — Applications for lease of Board's School site at Foxton Small Farm Settlement Referred to the Executive. Hiwinui. — Letter enclosing tender for rebuilding chimney.— Resolved, that the sum stated be voted provided a guarantee be given tbat the work will be effective. Pukeroa. — Letters explaining how a family were allowed to live in the school residence.— Resolved, that a copy of the letter be sent to the Chairman of the Committee, with the intimation that the Board is satisfied. W T aitunn. — Letter notifying election of new Committee and also pointing out the urgent requirement of more desks ; granted. Upper Taonui. — Messrs W. and L. Bailey and Leford were appointed Commissioners for the district. Taonui. — Letter notifying election of committee, and asking for amount to cover cost of some urgent repairs ; granted. — Mr Sanson reported on the necessary repairs to the teacher's residence, estimating the total cost at £7 10s. -Resolved, That Mr Sanson be empowered to have tlie repairs effected. Pihama.— Letter from the teacher (Mr Carter) asking permission to erect a small residence on the school site ; granted. Sandon Block. — Mr S. Mackie wrote, under instruction of the settlers, asking the Board's assistance in establishing a school there. The letter pointed out tbe urgency of the case. — Resolved, that the Board is willing to grant up to £7 for a building to be used at first as a school and hereafter as a shelter-shed, when the Board is in a position to erect a proper school, or, if they are prepared to wait some time longer, that the Board will consider their application when they receive the building fnnd. Birmingham. — Letter stating tbat ?roung men under age and also a man iving in a tent had voted, and asking whether the election was void. — Referred to the chairman of the householders' meeting to report. Campbelltown —Mr Carson reported that Mr Beckett and himself had inquired into tbe charges made against the teacher at Campbelltown, and bad come to the conclusion tbat the whole thing was a pure fabrication. They regretted that the teacher should have suffered ao much from what they believed to be false charges In connection with the inquiry Mr Carson stated that the Committee and the teacher had desired to ba represented by counsel, bnt he and Mr Beckett decided not to comply with the request A Return— lt was resolved, on the motion of Mr Carson, that a return be prepared showing the cost per head for each school in the Wanganui Education District. — Chronicle.
