The Onepuhi Bridge.

Mr McKay, Engineer for the Rangitikei County, Mr Bray, Engineer for the Manchester Road District and Kiwitea County, with Mr Geo. Wheeler, a member of the Manchester Road Board, met at the Onepuhi bridge yesterday to inspect the damage done by the recent flood. The up stream cylinder of the Manchester end of tbe bridge has settled down about two feet, which has had the effect of considerably straining the span which rests thereon. One pier supporting one of tbe thirty feet spans has been completely washed away leaving the stringers swinging by the corbals. The approach to the Manchester end is very slightly damaged. Nearly the whole of the river is at the Manchester end of the bridge. The approaches at the Rangitikei end are uninjured. The river above the bridge is cutting away its southern bank, with a tendency to make an opening into the old flood channel which is at present crossed by a platform bridge. It will be recommended that two eighty feet spans on cylinders be added to the Manchester end, and that the river bank above on the same side be protected. The rough estimate of the cost is £4000.
