| o The following lines, for whose genuiness the Kcho can vouch, were found written on a prisoner's slate in his ctrU in one of the English convict establishments : — To Wm. E, Gladstone, on his KeTIBEMENT. When Cincinnatus, with careworn brow, Turned from the Eoman Senate to the plough, He took not with him such a wreath of bays As that which cvowns thy memorable days, Nor could look back with calmer gaze to scan The pure paged hißtory of a glorious man. Son of old England, worthy of her soil, Long may she reap the harvest of thy toil ; Long bear in mind tbe lessons thou hast taught Nor view, ingrate, the work which thou has wrought ! Joy to thy setting sun's illustrious track, Such, Billy, is the fervent wish of Mac.
