Proposed New Borough Council Offices.
The sketch plan of the proposed municipal building for the Feilding borough prepared by Mr T. H. James of Messrs James and Heaps, architects, was submitted to the meeting of the Council on Thursday evening. The t'Uildiog, which is Italian in design (of the Tuscan order) is an imposing structure, and will be sanded on the outside to give it the appearance of stone. The main entrance is from Kimbolton road and from it the Council chamber and Mayor or Committee room is entered through a vestibule and hall. The Council Chamber is 27ft by 1 6ft and the Committee room is 16ft by 23ft. These rooms are divided by a curtain which if required can easily be removed thereby throwing both rooms into one. making a very convenient room 40 feet long for public meeting purposes. To the left of the vestibule is a convenient 19ft by 13ft clerk's office, with a 6ft 6in by 4ft 9in strong room attached. The public entrance to the library, reading and news room is from Stafford street, and which rooms all open into a public entrance vestibule. The reading room is 16ft by 16ft and is for the convenience of subscribers to the books and periodicals of the lending library, and which is 14ft by lift, with clear wall space for book shelving. The news room in which papers and periodicals will be filed is 27ft by 17ft and is for the use of the general public. The building is also provided with a lavatory and convenient stationery pupboarda, fireplaces, etc., and adjoining {he back are ponvenient outbuildings and a wood ahed. There is also include! in the plans an engine shed 21ft by 15ft and meeting room 17 ft 6in bg 15ft for the use of the Feilding ."Fire Brigade. It is roughly estimated the building will cost about £800 and the plans aie to be submitted for approval to the Colonists Land and Loan Corporation, who are giving a site at the corner of Kimboiton road and Stafford street for the purpose.
