greater or lesser extent to the others tor assistance in the way of contributions, we would suggest that a conference be held of delegates from each to consider the position. By adopting this course a great deal of utterly useless discussion may be avoided at Board meetings, and amicable adjustments made of the proportion of cost to be borne by the ratepayers in the several districts. We are aware that j so far as the Feilding Borough Council and Manchester Road Board are concerned no difficulties exist, but there are indications that some representatives of other local bodies have a disinclination to help their neighbours unless forced to do so by the decision of a Commission. The experiences our local bodies have had in this connection, have never been pleasant for too often much ill-feeling has been imported into the question, which had better been left out. By holding such a conference as we suggest not only would an estimate of the whole sum of money required be obtained, but the several delegates would learn how much each local body is dependent on the other for its general prosperity and welfare — A knowledge not yet apparently attained.
