Feilding Borough Council.
« The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held last evening. Present — The Mayor (Mr Carthew), Crs T. R. Chamberlain, F. Y. Lethbridge, H. Worefold, W. A. L. Bailey, G. W. Fowles, J. Gould. The minutes of previous ordinary and special meetings were read and con* firmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : — The report of Messrs Hill and Bray, engineers, which is published elsewhere, was read. From F. Flavall, inspector of nuisances, report. From G. O. Hubner, agreeing to Council taking over contract according to resolution. From Charles Bray (senior), clerk to Manchester Road Board, asking the Council if they would consent to pay one-fifth of the cost of the erection of a bridge across the Mangaone stream on the Feilding- Ashurst road. The estimated cost of the new bridge was £400. From F. A. Monckton, pointing out a good ford for crossing at the Kiwitea stream. From J. Fraser, asking the Council to placa his name on the rate-roll for sections 700, 701, 702, and 704, Feilding.— Application to lay on table till after election of councillor. From S. Knight, asking the patronage of the Mayor and councillors at the first production of a play written by him, to be produced on June 13. Petition from H. Worsfold and 28 others, praying that a foot-bridge be erected across the Makino stream at Duke street. From S. S. Ratliff, asking the Council to metal a portion of West sbreet leading to his house. From G. Wilks, suggestion for .bridge across the Kiwitea stream. From Lucy M. Bardesley, soliciting charitable aid for herself and her sister. From S. Goodbehere, re mud-hole in West street. From H. H. Richardson, clerk Rangitikei County Council, applying for payment of this council's share of licensing elections— £23 9s Bd. From A. Eade, captain of the Feilding Volunteer Fire Brigade, statement of assets and liabilities of that body.. Liabilities—Dr to Aitken, Wilson, and Co., balance on engine and plant, £84. i Asset a— Credit-balance at bank, £8 18s sd. From Charles Bray (junior), tendering his resignation as councillor, as his employment would not allow bim to devote the time necessary to carry out; the duties of a councillor. The Public Works Committee report read as follows :—That the application of Messrs Saxon and Heald that an approach be made from Kimbolton road to their premises, Denbigh Square, be granted as soon as funds are. available for the work. That the drain in Denbigh street complained .of by Mr Cobbe be cleaned out. Tbat the application of Mr Hodren for permission to place a culvert across tbe footway in Queen street be acceded to. The committee have made satisfactory arrangements for a ford across the Kiwitea ' stream with approaches through the property of Messrs Carr and Betemeyer. Mr Carr allows a right-of-way through his property free of charge, the Council bearing the cost of fencing. Mr Retemeyer isto be paid £30 for right of way for twelve months or until the bridge is constructed and to erect any necessary fencing at his own cost. The Finance Committee's repbrtv recommended that accounts amounting to £175 be passed for payment. The Mayor informed the Council that according to instructions, he had had plans prepared for a municipal building proposed to be erected on a site,, at the corner of Kimbolton road and Stafford street, which the Colonists Land and Loan Corporation are giving for the par* pose. Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the report of the Public Works and Finance Committees be adopted. - Carried. Proposed by Cr Bailey, seconded by Cr Fowles, That Councillor Bray's resignation be accepted with regret.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Fowles, That Mr S. Knight's request be acceded to.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Chamberlain, seconded by Cr Gould, Tbat Mrs Bardesley and her sister be allowed two weekly rations during the pleasure of the Council.—Carried. Proposed riy Cr Worsfold, seconded by Cr Bailey, That Mr Lethbridge be added to the Public Works Committee in the room of Cr Bray resigned.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded hy Cr Chamberlain, That Charles Green be appointed foreman of works.- Caried. Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the report of the Municipal Building Committee be adopted and that the plan be forwarded to the agent of the Colonists Land and Loan Corporation. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That the letter of Mr Goodbehere be referred to the Pubiic Works Committee to report to the next meeting of the Council. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Bailey, seconded by Cr W'orsfold, That the report of the Engineer on the best plan for erection of new bridge over the Kiwitea stream be agreed to, and that the necessary steps be taken under the Loans to Local Bodies Act to carry out the same, and that tbe Manchester Road Board and Kiwitea County Council be asked to contribute each one-fourth of cost of the bridge and approaches. — Carried. Froposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Fowles, Tbat a committee,- to consist of the Mayor, Crs Lethbridge and Bailey, be appointed to confer with the Borough Engineer, and the Engineer to the Manchester Road Board, as to the terms on which they would undertake to prepare plans and specifications and superintend the constuction of a bridge over the Kiwitea stream, and report to a special meeting to be held on Tuesday, 12th June, at 8 p.m.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Bailey, That this Council agree to contribute one -fifth of the cost of a bridge across the Mangaone stream on the Feilding- Ashurst road, as requested by the Manchester Road Board— Carried. ! Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the members of the Finance Committee interview the manager of the Bank of Australasia for the purpose of getting a further loan by way of overdraft.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Gould, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That the Council desires to tender its thanks to Mr Carr, for placin&his property at the disposal of the public, as an approach to the ford over the Kiwitea stream, free of cost.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That consideration of the report of the Engineer, referring to Warwick street bridge, and the Makino stream between tbe said bridge and Manchester street be deferred \*ntil the special meeting to be held on Tuesday evening next'.— -Carried Y ' Prpposed by ! Cr Worsfold seconded, by Crßailey, That the requisition to ereot a footbridge ovev Duke street be acceded to, ancl that the Clerk of Works ho empowered to carry out the same.— Carried. Tho Council then adjourned.
