Public Library Committee.

A mooting of tho Feilding Library Committee was held last evening, when there were present Messrs Stevens, Reade, Fowles, Cobbo and Allan. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Librarian reported that during the month ot May 150 books were issued, nnd 3 new books added, the number on the catalogue being 730. Mr Reade stated that Mr McKay had promised to supply newspapers and a periodical to the Library. The Treasurer reported the credit balance (o be about £7. The following propositions were carried, viz : That the Borough Council be respectfully informed that unless the sky -light in the reading room be expeditiuusly put in satisfactory condition the committee will proceed with the work nnd deduct the cost from the rent in order to protect the property of the Library — That £8 be expended in new books ; the selection to be left in the hands of Mr Stevens — That the Librarian be instructed to examine each book on its reiurn to the Library, and if any scribbling was detected he was to report same to the Secretary— That Mr Reade be instructed to effect an insurance on the books to the extent of £50, the same to be in the names of Messrs Stevens and Allan. The meeting then adjourned.
