Harcourt's proposal to levy death duties on Colouial property held by persons dying in England. Mr Patterson replied, promising to instruct the Agent-General to move in the matter. BuiSBANE, This Day. Returns show tho quantity of beef preserved in Queensland last year amounted to 8,000,000 pounds, as compared with 3,000,000 pounds for tho previous year% Frozen beef : 28,000,00 pounds, as compared with 17,800,000 pounds frozen meat, or 2,851,000 pounds as compared with 6,640,000 pounds. The Government has received a cable from Hong Kong that the epidemic is known as the " Butonic plague, ' and that since May 10th 447 deaths have been recorded, chiefly of Chinese coolies Only three Europeans have been attacked. Prkth. This Day. Parliament has dissolved. The elections will take place towards the end of the month. The rovenne has already exceeded the Colonial Treasurers estimate, and is expected before the end of the financial year there will be a surplus ot sixty thousand pounds.
