Railway Freights on Stock.

IMPORTANT TO FARMERS (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, This Daj. A deputation from the Agricultural Conference waited on the Railway Commissioners and brought under their notice a number of matters aOectingthe firming community. Mr Grigg asked for a reduction in the rates for produce and the carriage of stock, especially sheep. He suggested special stock trains should be run like those between Adding ton and Dunedin, and a guarantee might be taken that stock would be sent by these trains. He also asked that trucks might be built like those on the Manawatu lino. Mr McKerrow said those trucks were not approved of by southern sheepownera. Sheep earn iiv^ was not so profitable as Mr Grigi? inferred If they hod to reduce the rates half would be a dead loss. Mr Grigg asked for free passes for the judges, but the Commissioner deprecated the idea. Mr H Rdynolds asked fur con cessions on dairy produce, especially ; cream. Mr Buchanan, M H.R., pointed out that the coming Australian competi tion in meat, which might be very serious, it behoved the Commissioners to do their beat to help the producers. Other members urgod the short distance rates for produce should be reduced and sheep carried at the same rates as cattle. Mr McKerrow promised all the points raised should have their careful consideration.
