Defrauding Tradespeople.

[PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION. 1 Weixington, May 22 In the Magistrate's Court, Thomas and James Eastward were committed for trial on a charge of conspiring" to defraud tradespeople by inducing them to purchase " Fish cement." The method adopted by the accused was for Thomas to make a call upon a shopkeeper and ask if the cement was kept in stock as he required a quantity for use in the leather business. No one^of course, had heard of it, faul as the customer always took care to state that he was prepared to give 10s a dozen for the stuff which he knew could be bought for 7s 6d a dozen, the shopkeeper naturally promised to try and procure it. Shortly afterwards James would appear on the scene with a bag containing sundry samples of cement, &c, including the " Fish cement," and having sold first a small quantity (which Thomas afterwards came and bought back), and asked for more, he generally succeeded in inducing people to take a large quantity of the article in anticipation of finding a ready market for it with the man who dealt in leather.
