Pohangina Road Board.

The regular meeting of the above was held on Saturday. Present— Wardens Arbon, Dicken Browne, Vicary and BeU. ; Warden H. Dickin was unanimously re-elected chairman. CORRESPONDENCE. * From H. J, Haynes, Registrar of Dogs stating that the Kiwitea County Registrar is collecting dog-tax from PohanSina residents, and suggesting the Board should ask for a refund. — Recommendation adopted. From P. Spelman, asking for an outlet to sections 46 and 47, Block X., Pohangina. - It was pointed out that the work is going on. From T. Harrison, asking permission to fall 20 chains of bush on Opawa road. —Granted. From G. H. Fisher, Feilding, asking Board to allow rates to stand over until he had an answer from the Land Board* From the Treasury, announcing trans : mission of £2692, loan money, to Board's account. From H. Adsett and Son, consenting to spend £6 on repairs to road through township. From G. Saunders, asking if he had to take ont slaughtering license, considering he was kilting two sheep a week and selling them to neighbors. — It was decided to inform him that he must take out a license. From James Whittaker, applying for an outlet for the water drained on his section and promising to pay rates on his " pool " when he has the money. RESOLUTIONS. That the draft of Bill by which it is proposed to constitute this Road Board District into a county and the schedule of boundaries of ridings, as read, be approved, and that Mr Fred. Pirani, M.H.R., be further respectfully requested to introduce same to the House of Representatives and arrange the preliminaries necessary to such action.— Dickin — Arbon. That the following alterations to rate roll be agreed to :— Leslie Skerman for sections 34 and 35, W.H.B. Block;. Hopkins for section 25, Block XIV, Pohangina ; W. Oaklej', for section 9, Block XII, Orua ; J. S. Harrison, for section 70, Block IX, Pohangina; Margaret Moar, for sub-section 30, Block V, Pohangina ; and Thomas Jefferies, section 22, Block VI, Pohangina. That the Engineer stake out as much work as possible in Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 Lines, No. 2 Ward, and call for tenders for same, as well as continuation of main road north and south. , That for the future the Board's advertisements be inserted in the Mana* watu Daily Standard and Rangitikei Advocate only. — Browne — Bell. That the Commissioner of Crown Lands be requested to pay to this Board the revenue derived from reserve section section 31, Block Yin., Apiti.— Diclrin —Vicary. engineer's report. Mr H. J. Hayns reported that in No. I Ward the £20 allowed by the Board had been spent on the road between the school and Pohangina township, but he was afraid it would be impassable during the winter. For No. 2 Ward, Warden Arbon and himself had accep* ted the following tenders :— Contract No. 16, culverts, formation, and metal* ling on No. 1 Line, R. Horn and Co., 1186 10s ; contract No. 38, Main Road North, £125 7s 6d; contract No. 37, Main Road South, Keady O'Leary and A. Brooking, £157 4s. Ninety-three, chains of the Main road had been staked out and levelled, and No. 1 Line extension started, while permission was required to let about fifty chains. Slips had been heavy in No. 2 Ward this month. In No. 3 Ward Mr Warm has finished bushf ailing on Main Ridge road, and Messrs McDermott and Co. are pushing on with the Terrace road. Messrs Horn and Co. have commenced bushfalling and clerring on Apiti road, from Mr Hirst's. A great deal of work is required to put roads in No. 5 Ward in repair, but there is.no way out of the difficulty until the £2000 loan is received,. — The tenders accepted were approved; Mr F. Richards waited on the Board in reference to the valuation of his property at Coal Creek and a refund of rates overpaid, as the Commissioner of Taxes had reduced the valuation. Although some £60 had been overpaid, he only asked for £18 4s 4d, last years's overpayment, to be refunded. — The Chairman said if there was any money available the Board would do what they could. After accounts had been passed for payment the meeting terminated. — Standard.
