Frozen Meat Trade.
Messrs Nelson Bros. (Limited) report under date, London March 30th, as follows : — New Zealand mutton — The arrivals have been the Tainui with 20,648 and Nairnshire with 4317 sheep. "The market was bare of really prime Canterbury and s£d per lb has been touched, 5d per lb "being readily given for anything of fairly good character. The bulk of sheep offered have been Wellingtons, and 4|d per lb has been easily obtainable. The stores have not been so clear of New Zealand sheep for some years, the only stocks being the balance of the Ttiniutaka, until the Nairnshire began discharging on Tuesday, some of her sheep appearing on the market next day. New Zealand lamb— The Nairnshire brought 9500 and the Tainui 14,930. Some Dunedin lambs ex Nairnshire have been put on the market, holders being anxious to realise, and the quality not being good, prices have fallen, the best Canterbury being now worth 6d to 6£d per lb, while Dunedins have sold at from 5d to s|d per lb. Consignments of lambs this season, both from Canterbury and Wellington, have generally been very superior and worth the good prices hitherto obtained ; it is to be regretted that anything inferior should have been shipped, as they are certain to have a lowering tendency.
