Funeral of the Late Dr. Stuart.

(PEB PREPS ASSOCIATION ) Dcnkdin. May 16 The half holiday declared to enable citizens to attend the funeral of the late Dr Stuart was closely observed There must have been fifteen to twenty thousand people lining George and Princes streets, from Knox Church to Walker streets, the greater proportion being women A few minutes after 2pm, the Engineer's Band commenced the march, playing the Dead March, and were followed by the children of the Industrial and Knox Sunday schools, carrying wreaths, Gaelic Society and Highland pipers, playing laments. The hearse came next with mourners on each side, flanked by the Highland Bides, Behind came the horse and bupgy presented to the doctor by the congregation loaded with wreaths, the coffin being also covered by them. Relations, and Knox Church congregation, public bodies, visiting ministers, and ministers of other denominations came next The Salvation Army, University students, and High School boys mustered very strong. The Ordnance Band and public school children, carrying- wreaths, followed by about one hundred carriages, came next, in one of which was Bishop Moran'a representative, Dr Neville. The Anglican Bishop oc ctipied die other, and the Hon. J. G. Ward was in another. Those in proces sion must have numbered at least 5000 An unusual circumstance waa the presence of a number of Chinese and Assyrians. At the grave the Rev, A Cameron read portions of scripture, and the Rev. Mr Will engaged in prayer.
