A CLERICAL LIBEL CASE. END OF THE BOOTMAKERS STRIKE. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Adelaide, This Day. The Wesleyan Conference voted £200 towards the costs of the libel action brought against the Rev Mr Chapman by certain Roman Catholic priests in Fiji. Brisbanf, This Day. The Chamber of Commerce in discussing the question to bo decided at the Canadian Conference admitted the necessity for the Pacific cable, but opposed the proposed route via New Zealaud as the distance would be 1000 miles greater than from Queensland direct. The Chamber was not prepared to say from present information that the Canadian route was the best. Sydney, May 14. The bootmakers have written to the masters declaring the strike off, as the non unionists who were the cause of the men refusing work have now joined the Union.
