Birmingham Wesleyan Church.

At a public meeting held on Thursday it was proposed to resuscitate the old Mutual Improvement Society on a new basis. The terms for subscript tion are very moderate, Is on nomination of members and 3d per quarter for gentlemen. Ladies free to all meetings. The Bey. T. R. Richards, who occupied the chair, urged ion all present to help forward the society which will be distinctly non-sectarian, as it is started for the improvement and advancement of the youiig of both sexes in increasing their knowledge of events affecting their social welfare. Mr Fergusson was very pleased that the society had been started as it was a Jong felt want for the township, the young people having so few opportune ties of self-culture as are available to young men in large towns and cities, Mr Tolley, senr., was glad that the society was to be once more in working order and trusted that it would be strictly non-sectarian and therefore open to all desirous of mutual improvement in knowledge. Mr Anyon was very glad to see such interest taken in the society and hoped that the young people would rally round and support the movement to the best of t&eir abilities. A number of officers were elected. The next meeting will be on Thursday week, May 17th, which will also be public. All desirous of joining the society will then have the opportunity of doing so. Mr Ferguskon will read a paper " Critics and critic* ism."
