Mar 8 The Herald's Taupo correspondent states that the proclamation by the Governor prohibiting the sale of liquor in what is known as the King Coun try has been discovered to be ultra vires, and therefore invalid. The ground of invalidity is tha* the 25th section of the Licensing Act, 1881, only empowers the Governor to prohibit over areaa where a license did not exist at the time when 'he proclamation was issued, whereas the Toka hdu Hotel nxiste 1 as a licensed house at the time and previous to both pro clacnatioi.s ; ur»d as Tokaa >v is within the prohibited area it is contended that unless a fr»*sh proclamation is i«sued exempting the aroa on which tho Tobaanu Hotel stands, the Licensing Committee will have to act as if the King Country were not a prohibited area
