RESOLUTIONS. ; Resolved, on the motion of Cr Gould seconded by Cr Bray, - That the report* S i of the Finance and PubUc Works Com- ; mittees be adopted. ' ;^|p Resolved, on the motion o! Cr Sandi*^ lands seconded by Cr Lethbridge, That: < 'the application of F. Pope be granted, {; subject to the sign-board being erected t to the satisfaction of the Clerk of Works. ",■ ;- : -, : .":^ ?^j Resolved, on the mqtion of Cr BrayK! seconded by Cr JFowles, That' wi' Flavall's request be granted, subject to ; > the approval of the Clerk of Works. :i[ Resolved, on the motion of Cr S&ndi-p> lands seconded by Cr Cbjunberlain, I That the applications of Messrs Wt - Hodren, G. Kirton, John Cobbe, Saxon, > and Heald, be referred to the Public | Works Committee, to report at the next meeting of the Council. \^c| It was proposed by the Mayor, seeon*^ dedby Cr Gould, That a general rato^ of Is 3d in the £, and a Library rate of fe? one penny in the £+ on the rateable ■[ value of all the rateable property in the vj Borough of Feilding, for the financial- ; year ending 31st March, 1895, be hereby^ made, such rate to become due ana ;H payable in one sum on the 18th day of May instant. -5j In speaking to the motion, the Mayor thought they should be acting OB |; business lines in carrying the pro- jj position. He stated that the Council's H; overdraft at present was JE47O. They M\t had passed accounts to the amount of t? £97 odd, and had let a contract for re« H pairs to the Warwick street bridge of £55 odd, making a total overdraft ot^r* JE625, so Councillors, must be cautious as U to how rates were spent. 'They nauit^|l increase then: revenue in order to meet K necessary works. A lot of work that If should have been done last year wi«;' held over because the Council were not in funds. His Worship quoted figures showing that if their overdraft went oa^ S increasing as it did this time last yea? it would in July amount to over E and the limit was 4800. He was looking ; | forward to having the greater portion of % Kimbolton road re-metaUed dwing the . ? winter, and there was nodoabtaconsider* 'j& able sum of money would have to be spent < i on the Kiwitea bridge auS Makino stream. Taking these things into ; n consideration, and the fact that they :^ had to work under their limit of oye?» Hp draft, it was impossible to effect neoes ; j : sary works without increasing their :|p present revenue. )li The proposition was then put tothe ]p Council, and carried r Crs Lethbridge :»& and Fowles dissenting; ?| FIRE BRIGADE. The application of the Fire Brigade for a grant of £35 wai discussed, the mailer having been held over from the previous meeting. ~ Cr. Lethbridge was of opinion that a resolution had been carried some time back to the effect that the Council should contribute £ for £up to i-25 He thp, ughf they should help in the matter. ' ' .^b. Cr. Sandilands thought it would bi^' unwise to vote any money until the Brigade had provided the Council witfa^a statement showing tbeir financial posii^ -- tion. Other Cr3 being of the swne opinion : it was resolved, on the motion of Cr. : Lethbridge, seconded by Cr. Sanditandg, That the Brigade be asked to place the '; : financial position of that body before the $ pext meeting of the Council. §§ uncEUANEova. Ci-s, LetbbridgQ ao3 T^hginpsoa refwtccl
to the aelaj in proceeding with the repairs of the North street bridge.
