Wednesday Half-holiday.

PROPOSAL TO CHANGE TO SATURDAY. There is a movement on foot in Feilding to have the half-holiday on Saturday afternoon in place of Wednesday. It is suggested that the shops should close at one o'clock, and open again at six. By this change it is contended that all assistants and employees would |have the half-holi. day on the same day, and not as at present, some on Wednesday and others on Saturday, so that some players in football and cricket clubs lose a good deal of time if they wish to play on Saturday, the day on which all important matches are played. At present no club can thrive in Feildiug for the reason stated, and it is considered that it would be an advantage for all to have the half- holiday on the same day, and that day should be aturday, as there are institutions which cannot close during the week. The convenience of the public would be studied by re-opening at six o'clock, and we understand the proposal has j met with some approval by employers.
