Scene at a Wedding.
At a wedding at Masterton recently a disgraceful scene was enacted i^the Wesleyan Church. Mr Joseph Lister was being married to Miss Lily Ivess, described as " a pretty local barmaid," and daughter of Mr Ivess, journalist. "A nnmber of drunken roughs crowded into the church, conducting themselves in a most boisterous and unseemly manner. Time was given them to quieten down, and the ceremony proceeded. Thereupon they began shouting out rude remarks and throwing handf uls of rice in the direction of the altar. The Rev. J. Dukes, who was officiating, called upon them to desist, and again order was restored. A third time they misconducted themselves, whereupon Mr Dukes admonished them severely, telling them, among other things, that they were a disgrace to mankind. They kept up a running fire of commentary, and the pastor was obliged to go down into the body of the church and order them out. They refused to go at first, but eventually the ringleaders slunk towards the door, and the ceremony proceeded without further-interruption."
