With respect to the letters from Mr Buchanan and Mr FitzHerbert (attorney for Mr Bill), re the proposed ioad through Mayfield property, Mr Taylor said that at the last meeting a resolution was passed that the necessary three acres of land be taken under the Public Works Act, and that therefore no further action was necessary. The road, as but* veyed by the Government, would not in any place be steeper than one in fifteen, and a six-feet bridle track would not cost more than ±180. If they took a road through the eastern boundary they would have to go through four sections. Mr W. T. Jacobs waited on the Board as a deputation, asking that the taking of the piece of land for the road through Mayfield should be postponed till next meeting, by which time no would call a meeting of those ratepayers interested. He had had an interview with certain ratepayers, and he believed a compromise could be arranged and a deviation effected, and if put off till next meeting he would then submit definite proposals. Mr Taylor put in a petition, signed by a number of ratepayers who would use the road, asking the Board to open the surveyed road through Mayfield. Mr Williamson was not personally interested, but numbers of ratepayers to whom he had spoken were in favour of the surveyed road, and he thought they should receive some consideration. Mr Jacob did not wish to stop the Board, bnt asked to have it left over for one month, when he would be prepared with definite proposals. Mr Beid proposed a notice of motion, To -rescind the resolution to take a road through Mayfield property under the Public Works Act. It was decided that a motion at tins meeting could not over-ride a resolution passed at tbe last meeting, and the sec* xetary, in reply to a question, said thai he would have no other course bat to go on taking the road under the Public Works Act, unless he received instructions from tbe chairman not to do so.
