The Premier Deputationised.
HIS MEWS ON THE LICENSING QUESTION. i _____ — (PKR PBBS9 ASSOCIATION.) Gisuobnb, April 13. The Premier has been deputationlsed all the morning. He was brst jinterviewed by a dozen ladies, who claimed that all restrictions should be removed which prevented women being on an equality with men. With this object , they asked that women be accorded the right to become member; of Parliament. Mr Seddon acknowledged this was the logical outcome of the enfranchisement of women, but thought the fair sex should first be politically educated before they were granted the higher right. A deputation of temperance people placed before the Premier what they considered to be defects in the working of the Alcoholic Act. The Premier said he thought all persons who went to the poll to vote for the committee should count as going to make up the half-nunjbm* on the roll who voted. He thought there should be only one ballot paper, and that simplified. He was desirous that the people should rule in this matter. Referring to clubs Mr Seddon remarked that applications were being received for club charters in districts whore hotels wore likely to be closed, but ho considered it would be a farce to grant thuiu.
