Wreck of the S.S. Kiwi.
(PEE PKEBS ASSOCIATION) Wellington, April 12, The Kiwi left Wellington on Tuesday evening for East Coast ports with a full general cargo. The Kiwi was an iron vessel of 133 ions, bnilt in 1874 to the order of Messrs Levin and Co. specially for the East Coast trade. The Kiwi seemed to6trike amidships, and the water filled the hold. When the crew, fourteen in number, left the vessel the water was within a foot of the deck. A boat was launched, and when she was about 800 yds off the vessel cave a lurch and sank bow firsK She was valued at £3,500, and insured in the Victoria office for ±8000, portions of the risk being transferred to other offices as follows : - New Zealand, £500; Commercial Union, £500; South British, £500; Standard, £250; National, £250; United, £250; Thames and Mersey, £270. The steam trig Duco leaves for Glenburn this evening to bring the officers and crew of the wrecked veeßel to Wellington.
