Feilding Borough Council.

■- . . . , The ordinary monthly meeting of the J above was held last evening, there being I present — The Mayor (in the chair), and • Councillors Bray, Fowles, Gould, Lethbridge, Thompson, and Worsfold. Mr Sandilands wrote asking for leave of absence, which was granted. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From J. H. Blackmore, asking Council to give an order to have the road from Churcher -street to Pharazyn-street opened, it having been fenced across by Mr Reid. From the manager of Warnock and Aclkin, Feilding, suggesting the advisability of having a lamp placed at the corner of Fergasson • and Manchesterstreets. From Wm. Baker, and four others, requesting to have that portion of Eyrestreet from Denbigh-street to railwayline metalled. From John Prior, enclosing copy of letter from Messrs Bell, Gully and Izard, in -reference to Deed of Trust, regarding the Recreation Reserve. From the Clerk Rangitikei County Council, requesting this Council to forward the amount received during the current financial year in license fees respecting the sale of alcoholic liquors, the information being required to apportion cost of the Licensing elections, as provided by section 10 of " The Alcoholic Liquors Sale Control Act, 1898." From A. G. Mills, Marlborough, forwarding conditions under which be would be prepared to sink for an artesian supply of water. From S. Svendsen, applying for permission to erect a verandah in front of bis new building. From Wm. Smith, Makino, applying for sufficient material to make culverts 18ft in length to place at entrance to bis section la Port-street. Froni F. Flavall, asking to have a hole filled in in front of a cottage now being erected by him in Stafford-street. From T. Evans, asking Council to have stumps cleared out of the Makino stream in Dr Johnston's property adjoining his section. From Secretary Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, notifying that the proportion of expenditure for hospital and charitable aid purposes for the year 1894-95 bad been allocated by the Board at 5s lOd in the £1000 rateable value. From A. Eade, Captain F.V.F.8., applying for the usual grant in aid of the Brigade funds ; the amount still owing on the engine plant is about £81, which is now due. From nightsoil contractor, forwarding names of a number of residents within the Borough wbo refused to pay for the removal of nightsoil off their premises. From Manager Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation, re grant of site for purpose of erecting municipal buildings in Feilding, and suggesting that steps be taken to obtain a suitable design for the buildings, to be submitted, with other information, to the local directors for their approval without delay. From same, stating that the road through the Corporation Reserve bad been completed, and asking for the Council's formal acceptance of the road for maintenance in future. REPORTS. The Finance Committee submitted an estimate of the income and expenditure for the current financial year, which was placed on the table. The Public Works Committee reported as follows: — Your Committee beg to report having bad a meeting with all the members present to re-consider the report presented to the Council at its last meeting re Warwick-street bridge. The Committee decided to again recommend the timber breastwork for repairs, and that two or three small groins of stones be put in if found advisable as the work proceeds. — The levels have been taken in Pharazyn-street with a view of diverting the water which discbarges from a culvert on to the propertyof Mrs Sandilands. It is found, however, that the levels will not permit of the water being carried away along the street. A drain could be put across Mrs Sandilands' land at right angles to the road 5 chains in length, and continued about 2$ chains through the adjoining section (if the owners do not object) so as to prevent any overflow, at a cost of about £2. From Inspector Public Works, reporting a nuisance in front of Mr Hodren's Cordial Factory owing to drainage from same, and also one at the railway station owing to the urinal being too small for the accommodation of the public. RESOLUTIONS. Resolved, That Mr Smith's request for material for culvert be granted, labor to be supplied by himself. Resolved, That the application from the Fire Brigade be postponed until next meeting. Resolved, That Mr Reid be instructed to remove the fence across Port-street within one month' from date. Resolved, That the reports of the Finance and Public Works Committee, and the Inspector of Nuisances, be adopted. Resolved, That the Railway Commissioners be requested to give increased accommodation at the Feilding Station urinals, Resolved, That Mr FlavalTs request re filling in hole in Stafford-street be referred to tbe Public Works Committee to report at next meeting of the Council. Resolved, That the road from Man* Chester Square to Fergusson-street, constructed by the Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation be taken -over by the Council. Resolved, That a cheque be drawn for the amount of overdraft, £406 17s Bd, and that the Mayor and Cr Sandilands bo appointed a committee to make further arrangements for overdraft not to exceed £800, and the Mayor and Crs Sandilands and Gould be authorized to sign cheques. Resolved, That the matter referred to in Messrs Church's and T. Evans' letters be referred to the Public Works Committee to report at the next meeting of tbe Council. Resolved, That J. H. Blackmorc be appointed poundkeeper and ranger from April 6tb, 1894, to April 6th, 1895, and , J. T. Foster be appointed assistant ranger on sanio terms as last year. Resolved, Tliat 'His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Sandilands and Fowles be a building committee re Council Chambers. Resolved, That authority be given to the Clerk to draw £5 for petty cash. Resolved, That a cheque for £146 be drawn on interest account, and handed over to the sinking fund commissioners for investment. Resolved, That the estimates as read be adopted, and that notice be given that it is the intention of the Feilding Borough Council, at a meeting to be held on the 3rd day of May next, to make a general rate of Is 3d, and a Library rate of Id in the £ on the rateable value of all the rateable property within the Borough of Feilding for tbe financial year ending 81st March, 1895, such rates to be payable in one sum on the 18th of May next. Resolved, That tenders be called, to be in a fortnight from date, for the works at the Warwick, street bridge, in accordance with tbo report of the Public Works Com* rmttee, tenders to be opened and dealt with by the Public Works Committee. Resolved, That Eyre street ba mstal'el from railway line to Denbigh street, and Wells etreet from Fergusson street to Eyre street Resolved, That tenders bo accepted as

follows :— lighting street lamps, J. Pawson, 29s per month; supply, delivery and maintenance of metal, and teams, E. Charles, 6^d per cubic yard ; metalling Sher will street, J. Belfit, £1 per chain. Accounts to the amount of £95 4b 8d were passed for payment and the Counoi adjourned.
