Pohangina Notes.
fFBOM OVSL OWN COBBESPONDKNT.J The potato crop is reported to b< light this season. No doubt it is s< in other districts ; we may judge so at least, as the price per ton is hard ening somewhat. The Labour Bureau have put 2^ miles of the Salisbury road under con tract — two miles only was was firsl proposed. The river was very high on Monday and Tuesday. Messrs Gardiner Bros have lost some more fencing. We naaj expect to hear of considerable damage when the water has receded from th( banks. Those unfortunate groins on th( Pohangina just above the railway em bankment have come to grief again They were only finished last week, am now the first one is in mid-stream, th< water having scoured in behind. No 2is also slightly damaged. Our Ash urst wiseacres say that they do noi put them up at a sufficient angle — i.e. pointing down-stream. Mr Jas. Vile, of Cheltenham, fellec the 215 acres of bush on his section ir the Wanganui H.B. Small Farm As sociation. He went to view it on Saturday, and is well satisfied with tht burn. He commences grass seed sowing at once.
