MADAME PATEY'S DEATH. | Per jPbbss Association.] Sydxky, This Day. 11l the Legislative Council a private bill Las been introduced to suppress the improper use of the title of " bank." It provides that no person other than a corporate body with a paid up capital of not less than .£IOO,OOO shall carry on business in name of " Bank," banker, or banking. Advice has been received that the Netherlands Government positively refuse to compensate the owners and crew of the Sydney vessel Costa Rica, a packet seized in Java waters. The Premier has instructed the AgentGeneral to present a petition to the Imperial Parliament on the matter, and Sir Charles Dilke has undertaken to present them in the House of Commons and Lord Jersey in the Lords. The particulars of Madame Patey's death are almost tragic in its surround* ings. She was singing one of Handels Arias, and after endeavoring to silence the demands of the audience for a repetition she sang " The Banks of Allan Water." When she reached the last line Madame Patey was observed to be in pain and swooned. She died in a few hours from paralysis of the brain.
