Temperance Conference at Palmerston.
An important conference is to be held at Palmerstoa North on May 2nd under the auspices of the Palmerston Prohibition League. Delegates are being invited from the Napier, New "Plymouth and Wellington Leagues, and from all intervening places which have organisations of the kind. The chief business of the meeting will be to consider the amendments necessary in the Alcoholic Liquor Act, 1 and to make arrangements for more i concerted action among the North Island Prohibitionists, as well as among the Prohibitionists of the Colony generally. The conference will thus to some extent cover the same ground as the meeting of the New Zealand Alliance on Wednesday next, and will doubtless be materially influenced by the decision then arrived at. Messrs Stubbs and Grace, the energotic President and Secretary of the Palmerston Prohibition League arc, we believe, mainly responsible for the idea of the Palmerstou Couferencc.^ — Press.
