The Government decline to grant strangers permits on tho ground that they have their own unemployed to attend to first. No more permits are being issued for the Waylong fields, These permits are equivalent to free railway tickets to the scene of the rush and free miner's right, and in many cases free provisions. Melbourne. April 2 Mr Macredie, of the firm of Macredie, Drew and Company, has returned from London. He has been served with a criminal summons charging him with conspiring to defraud a Parisian firm. Drew, the other partner in the firm, was recently acquitted on a similar charge. Tb© hearing of the remaining issues in the Speight-Synie libel action was recommenced to-day. The plaintiff claims .£24,900. The Full Court has dismissed the motion for a new trial in the case of Speight v. Syme. The new trial was sought on the ground that the previous trial took place during the law vacation. Allen and Co., music-sellers, have filed a petition in bankruptcy. The liabilities amount to .£BB,OOO, and the assets are stated at £32,000.
