[PEB PRESS AS-uCIATION.j Wellington, Maich 31. A meeting of the Wellingtoi Branch of the New Zealand Eduea tional Institute was held to-da^ •when consideration was given to th< recommendations made at the receui conference of school Inspectors, f number of amendments being sug gested. Among the resolutions pas sed were the following : — " Thai arithmetic is a suuject already taking up too much of the school time, and the Institute would be sorry to se« the addition of mensuration of solids to the syallabus." In the matter oi geography this Institute thinks that tbe suggested changes are hardly oi sufficient importance to justify disturbing the existing syallabus." " That this Institute heartily approves ot the suggestion to make less than 200 attendances cases for exception." " That the protest of Dr Anderson against taking percentages as an estimate of the efficiency of the school, as proposed at the conference of Inspectors, is heartily endorsed by this Institute." In the matter of proposed withdrawal of teachers certificates on reports of Inspectors. 11 That this Institute strongly protests against the proposal to degrade "teacher*' certificates."
