Colonel Fox.

«•■ THE PREMIER INTERVIEWED. (FBB PBEBS" ASSOCIATION). Auckland. .March 29. A Herald representative interviewed the Premier with reference to a telegram from Wellington stating that Colonel Fox had asked the Premier to release him from his engagement ; but Mr Seddon was unable to throw much additional light upon the matter. He stated that the Commandant's communication was not at all equivalent to sending in his resignation, but that it was all a conditional affair. The Premier said the Commandant evidently thought the Government did not want him, or at any rate did not sufficiently appreciate his services, and appeared to consider that the Government were not incliwed to give effect to his recommendations, but preferred that things should remain as they are. Mr Seddon said he could give no further information, nor indicate what action the Government would take, until he had consulted his colleagues.
