The Brazilian War
(I'EB PRESS ASSOCIATION ) Nkw Yobk. March 17. Despatches from Rip de Janiero state that President Peixoto made a formal demand on the Portuguese Admiral to surrender Y>c Gama and the other rebel officers who sought refuge ou the Portuguese warship. The action of the Portuguese in assisting tho rebel leaders has irritated the Loyalists*, and tho forts have prevented several Portuguese vessels which were known to have some rebels on board from leaving Rio de Janeiro harbour. The surrender of the rebel forces in the war just ended way due to the waiit of provisions.
