Ifc appears that a strong detachment of bluejackets from gunboats on the coast joined Colonel Maddens forces, and marched against the town, but on arrival found that it has been evacuated. The work of landing the Naval Brigade through the surf was a perilous undertaking, but the men got ashore in safety. It is believed that Fodislab, with a mere handful of warriors, is hiding in the bush to escape capture. Calcutta. March 12. The British force killed uear Borlax consisted of a small Sepoy guard. There were 110 British oflicers among those killed.
