Pohangina Road Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held on Saturday. Present — Wardens Dickin (in the/ chair), Arboo, and Lucas. Correspondence was dealt with -in the following resolutions : — That the Secretory write to the member for the district (Mr F* Pirani) asking him to introduce a Bill into the House next session to constitute the Fohangina Road district a County. — The Chairman mentioned that he had interviewed Mr Pirani in reference to this matter, and the latter was *' desirous of introducing the Bill into the House. It was his intention to copy the Kiwitea Bill with certain amendments. That the Secretary inspect the bushfelling in front of the Wesleyan church, and Dncknan's section on his next visit to Apiti, and report to the Board. That the Secretary write and inform Messrs Oldham and others that the. Board has no power to close a road without a vote of the ratepayers being taken upon the matter, and suggesting that as the road was not used by persons other than those signing the petition, a gate placed across might, answer their purpose. That all tenders for contracts not strictly in accordance with the Engineer's specifications be considered informal. That a general rate of £d in the £ under the Road Board Act, 1892, and a general rate of $d in the £ under the Counties Act, 1886 be struck over the whole of the rateable value of the rateable property in the Pohangina Road Board district, also a special rate of 1 and 5-16ths of a penny in the £ be collected over the whole of No. 1 Ward to pay interest on loan of £3080. That Mr Hopkirk be informed that in felling the bush on road line only half a chaiu wide he has not conformed with the terms and conditions of the Board, and payment therefore cannot be made for same. That the Secretary write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, reminding him that he has not yet answered several important letters from the Board. That the consideration of tenders for works in No. 2 Ward be held over till next meeting, or until such time as the Board receives balance of loan from the Government. In the event of money being received before next meeting, Wardens Dickin, Lucas, and the Engineer to consider and accept tenders. That Mrs M. B. Port's offer to construct the necessary drain to carry off the water from the creek now flowing through her property from section 19, Block XIV., for the sum of £10, be accepted subject to her and all parties interested entering into an agreement to maintain the drain for ever, and the work to be done under the supervision, and to the satisfaction of the Board's Engineer. The following alterations were made to the rate roll : — elections 5 and 2, Blocks VII and VIII., Pohangina, J. and G Hitchman to F. G. B. Philpotts ; section 29, Block IX., Pohangina, F. Philpotts to R. W. Brown ; section 1, Block KMX M Pohangina Small Farm Association No. 2, F. Philpotti to E.G. Manning; section 18, Block X., Wanganui Harbour Board Block, E. Hopkins to A. Goldfinch ; section 5, Block X., Pohangina, T. A. Smith to Simon Moar ; section 1, Block IU., . Pohangina, P. lander to M. Denton. Accounts amounting to £194 were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. — Standard.
