A Scrimmage with the Natives.

♦ (PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, March 8. The police expedition was met on the banks of the Waikato river to day by about 100 natives. After a lively scrimmage lasting a quarter of an hour, 19 Maoris were arrested, amongst them Kerei Kaihau and his wife. Some Of the constables were rather roughly handled. The women especially offrred a determined resistance to the police. Two horses were in readiness and the prisoners, under escort were taken to Mount Eden gaol.
