The American press warmly praises the ex-Premier, and the World suggests that his statute should be erected in Central Park. The St. James' Gazette says that Lord Rosebery is discussing with the Duke of Devonshire and Mr OliamberJain the possibility of the Unionists rejoining the Liberal Barty, the Home Rule difficulty being got over by a compromise. Mr Justice Macarthy paid a visit to Mr Gladstone, and conveyad to him an expression of gratitude upon the part of the Irish members for his efforts in their cause. He assured him thac they would be loyal to Lord Rosebery. The London Liberals have passed a vote of confidence iv the new Premier, and Mr Labouchere has withdrawn his opposition. The Queen's speech referred to the lasting advantages . likely to result from the Parish Conncils Bill. Ottawa. March 6. Count Villeneuve has been arrested in Montreal on a charge of forgery.
