The Feilding Star. Published Daily. FRIDAY, FEB. 23, 1894. MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.
Wk are nit alone in complaining of meetings of creditors being held away from " the scene of the labors " of the debtors. The Egmont Settler says : " A good deal of dissatisfaction is being expressed at the action of the Deputy Official Assignee at Hawera, in ca ling meetings of creditors in the estates of people residing in this district to I c held at Hawpra instead of at Stratford. On two or three occasions lately quite a number of people hare been put to very considerable loss and incouvenienco through having to journey to Hawera, and lose a whole day there, when the whole business would have only taken up an hour or two of their time if held withiu a reasonable distance of their business premises. We understand that the fact of one or two large creditors residing in Wellington, or somewhere south of Hawera, has influenced the DO. A. in this matter, but we would point out that lbe travelling of a few miles further in the case of a man coming 100 miles or so is a very small affair, and should not bo considered against tbo time lust by per. baps a dozen or so of those creditors living on the spot " In the case of ihc bankruptcy of Mr J. C Morpy, to which wo roferre I, we ar j informed that the D 0 A. was not responsible for the injustice to the Feilding creditors.
