» The following are the traffic returns for the Taranaki-New Plymouth section for the period ending 6th January, 1891, and for the corresponding period in 1^93 : —

This is the first time a falling off in the gener.il total has appeared for a very long time. There was, however, an increase of over a thousand tons in the woo), and five hundred tons in the timber carried. The deficiency was in the items merchandise and minerals, which, as compared with wool and timber, are of little or no consequence. We observe that the first meeting of creditors in the estate of J. C. Morey, of Feilding, draper, a bankrupt, is to be held in Palmerston North, instead of Feilding where the bankrupt has conducted his business. Why this course has teen adopted we do not know. If, se>'tns, on the face of it, very singular that the Feilding credi tors who number 37 out of the total Gl should be put to this quite unnecessary, not to say unusual, inconvenience. There are 11 Wellington, 1 Palmerston, 7 Wanganui, 2 Auckland, 1 Nelson and 2 Marton creditors. It would be quite as convenient for the Wellington aud Wanganui creditors to meet in Feilding as in Palmerston. Tn this as in other cases the majority should receive the most consideration.
