A labour member drew the attention of the House last night to the action of the police, alleging batons were freely used ou women aud children as well an ou men. Sir George Dibbs, in reply, said the labor members did their utmost to harass the operations of the police while attempting to preserve the peace. The charge Mas a cowardly oue. He declared law and order should be maintained at all costs. A deputation has requested the Post-master-General to bring before the Postal Conference the insertion of a clause in the mail contracts prohibiting the employment of coloured labour on mail steamers.
