Railway Requirements.

During his visit to Wellington, Mr Fred. Pirani, M.H.R. for Palmerston, interviewed the Chief Commissioner, Mr McKerrow, in reference to several grievances in the district. The first referred to was the necessity for the mail trains stopping at Buunythorpe, and in support of the request it was pointed out that there was absolutely ' no through communication between Bunnythorpe and Wellington although through trains passed daily, and it seemed very hard that passengers for \ or from Bunuythorpe should have to ■ drive six miles to catch the Welling- . ton train, especially when the large . population was taken into consideration and when it was remembered that many smaller places north of Wanganui were treated in a very different manner. Mr McKerrow said that the question was a very important one for Bunnythorpe, and ho recognised that the residents had a } grievance. He would e;o into the matter carefully with the other Com- fc missioners, and if they could possibly f see their way to accede to the request, the concession would be granted. Mr Pirani then brought up the question of crossings, referring first to one asked for by Mr Peck, between Bunnythorpe and Taonui, and on which a deposit oi .£lO had been paid gix months ago. Great inconvenience was caused by the want of a crossing in the locality referred to, and the residents had been advised to get up a petition in favor of the concession, Mr McKerrow said that if there was a genuine grievance, that the Department could in fairness remedy, there would be no need of a petition, and if Mr Peck had been asked to deposit £10 to cover the cost of the work, c something ought to be Jdone in the s matter. He would look up the papers t at once, and have the matter attended to. — Standard. i
