Father Corolan,of St. Patrick's College, took place this afternoon, and was very largely attended, the deceased Professor having been highly esteemed by all classes. The White Star Liner's beautiful steamer Gothic was thrown open to the public yesterday and to-day. The charge of Is was imposed, the proceeds being devoted to the fund for furnishing the new wing of the Wellington Hospital. The Mum of .±'lo3 6s was taken, which with the Government subsidy, will result in the fund beucfitting to the extent of 4227. The cable-repairiug steamer Terranora, was engaged in splicing the broken Cook Strait cable yesterday, but the weather coming on unfavorable she returned to Worser's Bay. The work was resumed to-day, but nothing was heard from the vessel at 5.15 this afternoon, though it is fully expected full communication with the .South Island will be established to-day. This Day.
