Gorton and Son's Feilding Ram Fair.
*_ Messrs Gorton and Son held their annual Ram Fair at Feildiug yesterday, when the attendance was very good, and the bidding for most of the lots submitted, was brisk. Tho total number of rams catalogued was 240, of which 229 came forward. Besides these, 94 (not catalogued) were submitted, making a total of 828. Of the rams catalogued 149 were sold under the hammer, and of those not in the catalogue 24 were sold, making a total of 173. The highest price realised was f> guineas for a Romney Marsh rani bred by Mr G. Wheeler. Mr Geo Wilks also sold a Romney Marsh ram (bred by Mr Yorke) for 5 guineas. The highest price realised for Lincolus was 3^, guineas for two rams bred by the executors of the late W. T. Watt. A number of the lots passed in were sold privately afterwards. Pearce, 15 2tooth Lincoln rams — 13 sold ; highest price, 2 gus, Mr Stimpson ; remainder sold at 1 1 gus each ; buyers, Messrs Stimpsou, Younger, Haybittle, Ellerm, Pollock. On account of Robert Wilson, five 2tooth Lincoln rams — All passed in. On account of Woodendean estate (Mrs Willis), three 4-tooth Romnoy Marsh rams — Mr Corpe gave 3^ gus for one, and Mr G. P. Church and G. Younger 3 gns each for the other two. On account of Mr Donald Grant, three 4-tooth and 13 2-tooth — All passed in. On behalf of Mr G. Wilks, three 6tooth Romney Marsli rams — Mr Luxford, of Awapuni, bought one at 5 gus. Three 2-tooth, Mr Saxon bought one at 1 gu. I On account of Mr R. B. McKenzie, 27 Lincoln rams — Passed in. Fourteen Lincoln ram lambs, on account of Mr J. McKay, were .sold to Mr Win. Baker for Da 3d per head, and 15 f.ni. rams were passed in. On account of Mr F. McLeod, three f.m. Lincoln rams were sold to Mr W. Baker for 5s a head. Six 4 and 6-tooth Rouiney Marsh rains were passed in. Two 6-tooth Romneys, on account of Mr J. L. Hill, were sold to Mr G. Phillip at 1 gu.
