A Dastardly Act.
(pee pbesh association.) Timabu, This Day. A ineau and cruel outrage was perpetrated during the night. Three cows out of four belonging to a man named Whelan. enclosed in a small section in the Borough, were slashed with a sharp instrument ; one had a teat cut off and a long soar on the side, and practically bled to death ; another had an ugly gash below the haunch, the third a light scar on the back. A few chains away Peacock and Guinea, butchers, had horses grazing for the night on the Public School grounds and one of them had a long gash on the flank exposing the ribs and intestines. It is uot expected they will save it. It was probably done with a sharp hedge knife. No clue has been found to the perpetrators.
