Correspondence.
THE WEATHER. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — The total rainfall for the past month of January was 1*79 inches, the greater portion of which fell during the first three days of the month, and rain was registered on nine days during the month. The mean temperature taken at 9.30 a.m. was 69-16 deg., and the maximum 78-54 degrees. The high temperature of 92 deg. was registered on the 12th, 13th, 18th, and 22nd. The month is remarkable for the great cold which was experienced during the night of Monday last, the 29th, when the mercury fell to 32 deg. (freezing point), 18 deg. lower than on any other day during the month. This low temperature for the month of January has only occurred once before during my 14 years' residence in Feilding — viz., on the night of the 12th January, 1891. I am disposed to think that a temperature so low as 32 deg. has never occurred during the corresponding month of July in England. I am, etc., Saml. Goodbehere. Feilding, February Ist, 1894.
