(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). Dunbdin, January 29. Mrs Emily Patch, having had a difference with her husband, swallowed a quantity of match heads on Monday (22nd iust) in the vicinity of the house. When asked about the occurrence she told her husband to mind his own business. Next morning she performed her usual household duties, but on Thursday took to bed. Medical assistance was not called in till Friday, and then she did not tell the doctor what had happened. She got worse, and died on Sunday morning. She was a native of London, aged 30 years, and married Patch six months ago. At the inquest the jury returned a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane, and added the husband erred in not calling in a doctor at once. Wellington, Jana&rj 29. Fredrick Charles Cottle, aged 30, a well-known farmer of the Lower Hutt district, committed suicide by | hanging himself by a strap from a tree. No reason is assigned for tho act. A seaman of the ship Blenheim, named A. West, has been missing since Saturday night. The police suspect he is drowned and are dragging the harbour. West was drinking in town with his mates on Saturday ni°ht and was last seen on the Queen's Wharf at 1 a.m.
